Bits and Bobs

2.17.2014

  1. Started watching the series Perception and the Witches of East End. Whilst I am still forming my opinion on the latter (after seeing two episodes), Perception is a nice addition to my ever growing list of tv shows.
  2. A long well-deserved lecture by my mom in order to put me in my place as to whether I should pursue an internship option at a new established pop venue. Collecting my courage and still in the finalizing process of actually starting over there; I am nervous and excited.
  3. Went to see James Vincent McMorrow at Nijmegen with a friend and it was A-MA-ZING. Also a lot of thanks to Bonnie for letting us stay over since I otherwise probably would have missed half of the concert.
  4. Bought a new pile of books at the book fair in Maastricht on the last day.
  5. Had an amazing time at the bday party of Aranka, turning 22 for the 2nd time, with lots of delicious food and a drinking game with politicians. It was awesome.

2013 Favourites #2

2.16.2014

The second installment of this little series of posts are about my favourite lip products of 2013.

L'Oreal Paris Infallible: This one is in a deep red called 205 Powerful Ruby. Easy to apply with the nice mirror packaging.
New York Colour Expert Last: The colour is called 444 Chocolate Chip. This inexpensive lipstick goes on smoothly and has a reddish brown colour. Even when it's faded it leaves a nice overall stain on the lips so you don't have to worry about checking the mirror all the time thinking you might walk around with just a line on the outer lines of your lips.
Maybelline Baby Lips Intense Care: For so long everyone has been raving about these lip balms and I agree. This version, the intense care, really does wonders for my lips.
Miss Sporty Perfect Colour Lipstick: I have this in 174 Seduction and it is a plum coloured lipstick with a brown undertone. Yes as you can see I love reds and darker colours for my lips. I have trouble finding nude, pink, or just overall lighter shades of lipstick that suit me.
Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain + Balm: This is in the colour Forbidden and again is a darker colour. This stain lasts a while and comes with a handy balm.
Max Factor Lipfinity: My mom swears by this product and so I had to try it myself and got it in 350 Essential Brown. After a long search I found the packaging and yes again a dark colour! What a surprise.

That were my favourite lip products of 2013. As you can see, not much variation  which means I am still on the lookout for new colours to mix up my collection of reds, purples, and browns. 2013 Favourites #1

2.09.2014

First up in my favourites of 2013 are these hair products that have helped me throughout the year to keep my hair as healthy and manageable as possible. This post as well as the upcoming ones are way overdue but better late than never right? It might be useful and I hope you enjoy it! If you're interested in the other categories clink these links for lips, face, and eye makeup favourites.

Batiste Dry Shampoo Tropical: This lovely dry shampoo has helped me many many times when I just did not have the time to wash my hair. It has a really nice scent and does not leave any white stain on my red dyed hair. Spray it on your hair, wait 30 seconds and massage it in and tadaaa freshly looking, deliciously smelling and voluminous hair.
Pantene Red Expressions Conditioner: One of the hardest things to find is a good conditioner for dyed hair and in my case red dyed hair. As I am always on a budget and specialized conditioner for red hair is on the pricey side I have tried a couple conditioners for coloured hair throughout the year. This one makes my hair feel soft and shiny and even has a red tint to it thanks to the cherry bark extract.
Balea Colour & Care Hair Spray: Using hair spray always comes in periods in my case but when I do use it I use this one. Great hold and easy to brush out what more could you ask for? And of course for coloured hair - spotting a theme here...
Dove Repair Therapy Colour Protecting Conditioner: If I do not have the time to let the aforementioned conditioner or any conditioner for that matter sink in before rinsing it, or am just too lazy, I opt for this one. I suppose you could see it as a deep conditioner that works fast and efficiently.
Balea Heat Protection Spray: Whereas I used to straighten my hair pretty often and even bought a new straightener, nowadays I mostly just use a blow dryer and a rounded brush to style my hair. However, for both occasions a heat protection spray is a must and that's where this item comes in.
Swiss O'Par Coconut Hair Wax: Ooh the smell of coconut in hair products just smells amazing! The ends of my hair have become dry and brittle due to all the dyeing and heat tools as is just the result one gets over time. My hair is also a bit frizzy on top of this and this hair wax keeps everything feel and smell great.
Posh Sea Coral Bath Cherry: As stated before, products for red hair are usually not found in the drugstores and are pricier than normal shampoo and conditioner. In need of a shampoo for red hair, I got this one. It works great in putting some of the red back into my hair whilst I am in the shower. However, it does not  do a very great job at cleaning my hair from its greasiness or so it feels when my hair is drying. Strikingly, once it is done drying everything is okay. The bottle is almost empty and my parents got me gift cards from the shop that sells this shampoo so I am going to head there some time in the near future and see what I can score!
Teasing Comb: Can't remember where I got this teasing comb from, I think it was from Action, but it is a really handy tool. Seeing beauty guru's on YouTube use this instead of just backcombing with you're average brush made me on the lookout for a similar item. I do not use it that often but it is very handy for those times when I do want to add some volume that somehow failed to work out by my routines.
