Superdrug Haul│Canterbury

7.26.2016

Yes, a Superdrug haul! Are you as excited as I am? In case you missed it, at the end of May a friend of mine and I visited a mutual friend in Canterbury. A trip to Superdrug or Boots was just bound to happen. I was especially on the lookout for items that are not available in the drugstores in the Netherlands. Interested? Keep on reading...

Food Diaries│Canterbury

7.19.2016

See? I told you I was going to share more of my time in Canterbury with you, and I was not kidding. In case you are wondering what is she blabbing on about I visited a friend in said city and if you want to see some of my footage then check out the previous post here. Today's post is however totally dedicated to the dishes and places we went to eat or had a drink and are just worth to be mentioned. So, I am compiling them in one post as the foodie that I am. Enjoy!

A Weekend Away│Canterbury

7.13.2016

A friend of mine and I were off to Canterbury to visit a mutual friend of ours who is currently studying there. After failing massively on trying to get there on Thursday the 18th of May - our tickets for our flight (which would have been my first one ever) were somehow not booked when we arrived at the airport - we deliberated and took the plunge to try again the next day by train. Now that I finally got round to sorting through the stash of photos, let's have a look!

After a month of radio silence, the blog is back! For more info on why I have been MIA check out yesterday's post. Same old same old with Monthly Music i.e. still on the lookout for a new platform, but in the meantime I started using Whyd to compile a playlist of the tracks I have been listening to in the last month. Check it out!

Foodies' Fun

7.03.2016
Okay, I have some serious explaining to do before continuing to today's post. Looking at my blog, I have not posted a single thing in a month. That's just crazy! Excuse me for there being such a big pause which was totally unanticipated. There have been a couple of reasons as to why I have not posted in while. The first being the fact that I have been working almost every weekend and since the posts usually go up on Sunday, it messed up my blogging routine. Secondly, as mentioned in a previous post, I have had a bit of a blogger's block and felt unmotivated. Partly due to the preceding reason, but also because I want to change the look of this blog. Not being a coding-genius or having a real plan besides just wanting something different, it'll take some time before I am satisfied. Be that as it may, I have been getting my mojo back, and just have to accept the blog-in-progress feel whilst continuing blogging without a schedule. It feels good to be back and enjoy blogging again, so let's head into today's post - Foodies' Fun of the month of June!

The photo above is misleading as I took it on the last day of May. My mom, sister, and I had a nice day out in Heerlen with the main event of entertainment being the new film "Alice Through the Looking Glass." Beforehand, we went to Sushi Vandaag, an all-you-can-eat type of a restaurant. You get an iPad per table with the menu, and can select up to five dishes per round with five rounds in total. A very fun and less formal eating out concept, and besides sushi there is a wide variety of other dishes for the non-sushi people out there. At first I thought, 25 small portions of food is not going to fill me up, but it sure did. We made it to round 4 and I was well stuffed. A big success for my mom and I as we both hadn't been here before - and we went again with the whole family a few weeks later.

My brother missed out on the delightful and fun evening we had the day before, thus my mom was so thoughtful to recreate the experience by serving all types of bite-size goodies to eat for dinner. A variety of sushi, prawns in different coatings, dumplings, a courgette and goat cheese quiche *fave* and so on made for a festive and cozy meal.

At the end of May, my brother and I went to Amsterdam and I just had to make a stop at Tasty Coffee & Donuts for the amazing donuts. The one in the left corner on the bottom was the one I had on a previous trip and I was gutted I didn't try more simply because it was so good. Until quite recently, special (filled) donuts were hard to come by in and around the area where I'm from so whenever I can get my hands on a proper donut I am filled with glee. I fervently enjoyed these ones at the beginning of June. What's even better is that something similar just opened in Maastricht called Monkey Coffee. Naturally I have to make a trip to Maastricht soon.

It's been a long time since I included a beverage in a Foodies' Fun, but on a hot day what better idea than to try something as refreshing as a watermelon drink?! Never tried it before, and even though this What A Melon watermelon water was refreshing, it tasted more like the bit where the red goes over into the peel bit of the watermelon than the full flavour of the red I expected. Not a total fan.

A less visually pleasing, but equally thirst-quenching item is the meal my mom and I had called papeda. This potato starch based dish is 99% water and therefore perfect for a boiling mucky day.

A rise in temperature equals barbecue, and so my friends and I met up on a Saturday evening to get together and enjoy the food fest that you see above to complement what was being barbecued. The meal was finished with a nice slice of lemon-cake.

Every once in a while my mom comes up with the idea of having an array of small dishes to set up in the living room to enjoy for dinner whilst we watch a film or TV series. The photo above is one of those instances. Usually we opt for what I like to call brinner (breakfast for dinner) or all different types of snacks, but these dishes nicely tie in with the season. Just have a look at the colourful plate of beautiful fruits!

Took this shot the wrong way in case you're wondering why it looks off, but hey ho nothing I can change about that now. Spending a couple hours in Sittard halfway through the month we opted for late lunch/early dinner at SOHO. I was immediately drawn to the flatbread with an extra side of sweet potato chips. Delicious!

In Sittard we also made a stop at Coffee Mundo to get some special pieces of cake to take home with us after failing to get some cupcakes (the store was closed). It just so happens that both my mom and my stepfather have their birthdays in June. So it was this selection for my mom's birthday - lemon cheesecake for me - and...

... a homemade quark cake on my stepfather's birthday. Both equally as good! And there you have it. Another chapter of Foodies' Fun closed. Stay tuned for June's playlist tomorrow in Monthly Music right here on the blog. Enjoy the rest of your day!
